Tiger's Eye beads are a Quartz showing the phenomenon of Chatoyancy.  This phenomenon is caused by minute fiber-like needles aligning along a plane within the crystal structure causing light to reflect in a linear pattern. The effect is quite beautiful and rare in gemology as only a few gem species can have this Cat's Eye effect. Tiger's Eye gems are mined around the world particularly South Africa, Burma, India, Australia and the United States. .
