There are 20 different types of Garnet having similar chemical composition but separated into Varieties based on specific chemical elements. One of which is Hessonite consisting of the yellow, brownish orange, and fine earth-colored hues with an oil in water appearance.  The gem receives its meaning as `the grainy one` from the Latin word `granum` for grain. Garnets are readily mined from African countries, but also from India, Russia and Central and South America.
