Our Precious Opal has body colors of white, grey, or colorless and may be translucent in quality. Precious Opal is created from packed silicate crystals and water which form over thousands of years. These resulting Australian Opals' layers give a `Play of Color` or rainbow colors associated with the finest of this gemstone. Almost ninety-five per cent of all fine opals come from the deserts of Australia. The name Opal came from the Sanskrit word "Upala" meaning precious stone.
